Accounts and Performance

As with any business, it is vital to keep your accounts in good order, and to know how well your shop is performing. You can help do this by monitoring your sales and using the information measure and improve your business.

Computer Systems

It is easy to monitor your sales using simple and common software packages. In the same way that you can monitor stock using a spreadsheet, you can also monitor sales and prices.

The software allows you to make charts in minutes, clearly showing sales of products over a week, month, year, or even longer; and can allow you to see the money and profit made from products.

This will allow you to see quickly which products that are taking off or fading in sales, and adjust your stock and price levels accordingly.

Measuring Performance

You can measure performance purely in terms of income and products sold; however, you may be able to gain more information about the success of your shop through other measures.

“Most performance measurements are simple calculations that can be done manually or using a simple spreadsheet.”

You can quickly and easily measure your sales or profit against how many employees you have, opening hours, against total costs, or against any other time period since your shop opened. Most of these measures are simple calculations, which can be done manually or using the spreadsheets with the sales data on.

Checking Tills and Invoices

To make sure your accounts are correct, and that your sales figures are accurate, you need to check the till at the end of each day. You can then make sure that the total corresponds with the recorded total for the day.

You should also regularly check and order your invoices, to make sure that the amounts you are paid (and are paying) are correct. Regular monitoring of invoices will help you to keep better control of your accounts and Cashflow, as well as helping to ensure that payments are made on time.
