How Can an eBay Business Help You?

How an eBay Business Can Work for You
eBay gives you the opportunity to sell any items that you like. Any entrepreneur has the opportunity to sell hundreds or even thousands of products at the same time. If you are organised enough to run large numbers of auctions, and have the knowledge and ability to sell products that return a profit; the potential income is massive.
As well as providing a stand alone business opportunity, eBay can also provide huge benefits to existing businesses, especially shops and manufacturers:
Boosting an Existing Business
Increasing Sales – eBay can be used to sell existing items to a wider audience. If you run a local shop, eBay can bring you potential customers from around the UK (and even the world). It provides many more opportunities for selling; allowing online sales without the need to invest in a full e-commerce setup.
Excess Stock – If you have unsold items, or have over-ordered products; eBay can allow you to sell the excess stock to a wider range of customers. Although you may not make full retail price, you will get rid of the stock quickly before their value lowers.
Out of Date Stock – Items with a limited lifespan (e.g. Fashion items) lose value quickly if not sold whilst they are popular. eBay allows you to put items that are going out of fashion up for sale quickly, and help you gain as much income as possible before their value drops further.
Damaged Stock – Many retailers and manufacturers find it difficult to clear damaged or refurbished stock. eBay allows you to put them for sale quickly, and though you may not make a great deal; it provides more income than the products would being stuck at the back of a shelf.
Test New Stock – If you are unsure about buying new items to place in your shop, or are a manufacturer that is uncertain about mass-producing a new product; you can use eBay to test the market. You can sell one or two items, watching carefully how interested bidders are; and if the item sells well it may be worth buying/making more of. Some manufacturers and retailers even start new products at £1, and use the final eBay selling prices to help choose their retail price.
Research Trends – eBay can also allow you to watch for new ideas and trends without paying a penny. Simply by watching the results of new items and similar products to yours, you can gain a valuable knowledge of what is selling; and will be better placed to meet new fashions and trends in your product ranges.
Promotion
There are two main ways to promote your eBay business and auctions within the website. They can help to attract more bidders and increase your sales.
Featured and highlighted listings
Highlighted listing methods make your auction stand out in the long lists for a small extra fee; highlights can include having bold text, a small picture in your listing, and a different coloured bar. These may appear to be minor changes, but they can make your auction appear significantly more noticeable among hundreds of others; and are useful for many items.
Featured listings put your auction in a much more noticeable place; for a set amount of money (from around £10) your auction will appear at the top of its category (e.g. Children’s’ Toys), making it much more likely to be seen. Homepage listings are similar to advertisements, and will place your auction on the front page of eBay; allowing all visitors to the site to see it for around £50. These enhancements are excellent for promoting your item, but the cost of them makes them only worth using on large items where you can recoup the money in the extra bids you attract.
