Christmas is often a stressful time of year, with the hassle of presents and planning. Helping to create a friendly atmosphere in the workplace can help to keep staff motivated and productive during the holiday season.
Although your office or shop is a place of work, the putting up of Christmas decorations can help to enliven the atmosphere during the holiday season. You don’t necessarily need to have bright flashing lights or a huge tree; but some well placed tinsel and cards can help to create a more enjoyable working environment.
Christmas decorations in retail businesses also help to make shopping a more pleasant experience for your customers.
You can help to show your customers how much they are appreciated by sending them a nice Christmas card! It may only be a small gesture, but it helps to demonstrate a personal touch to your business; and is generally well appreciated. Many large businesses send Christmas cards to all of their staff, so as a small business; you should take a few minutes to do the same. It helps your staff to feel like respected and important members of the business.
Holiday opening hours are often confusing; some people will expect you to be shut every day for two weeks, some will expect you to be open all the time. You must let your customers know as early as possible the days and times that you will be open. You can do this by putting up a sign with ‘Christmas Opening Hours’ on, you could also send a leaflet with times and dates through the post to customers and the local area. If you are sending Christmas Cards to customers, you could include the details of your opening times with them.
If you have a large amount of work to do in the run up to Christmas, you should look to see if you can delegate some of the work to your more trusted staff members. This will help you to get all essential work completed without needing to over-run your work into your time off. As you may be away from your business for a few days, you could face a higher than usual risk of break-ins and damage. Before Christmas, make sure you double check all of your locks and shutters, and test any security alarms and cameras. Checking early will allow you to fix any faults or problems.
If you make sure that your business is as secure as possible, you will be much less likely to find any damage when you return to work.
