Proven Businesses You Can Start From Home - Window Cleaning

Window Cleaner

Working as a window cleaner involves literally cleaning windows, as well as other items such as displays and glass surfaces. This could be on small shops or tall buildings, and may involve the use of special equipment or ropes to climb up buildings.

Patience is a helpful quality in window cleaning, as you will be doing a similar task for all customers. You do not need to have transport available, but it will be helpful; as it allows you to take your equipment anywhere in the local area.

You will need standard washing equipment (E.g.: Bucket, brush, cleaning solution), though some larger window cleaners are now using more expensive pressurised water systems.

There are no formal qualifications needed to become a window cleaner, but if you will be working at heights, you need rope access training and a certificate to show you will not be putting yourself in danger.

Window cleaners generally charge either a fixed amount or a set amount per window; normally collecting the money after the work is finished. The money you can earn as a window cleaner is not particularly high; but you can potentially earn more being self employed than through a contract cleaning company.

Window cleaners usually need to actively find customers by going to buildings and speaking to the owner or manager. You may be able to pick up some customers by advertising in a local directory (E.g.: Yellow Pages or Thompson Directory).

Pro:

After the equipment, there are almost no running costs.

No real learning required.

Con:

There is a relatively low income per customer.

There may be a lack of interested customers

High insurance premiums
