Proven Businesses You Can Start From Home - Teaching

Teaching

Working as a teacher can involve a number of different subjects, with playing musical instruments and speaking foreign languages being two of the most common.

You will need to be enthusiastic for your subject, and be patient while pupils are learning. Although you can teach informally, to teach professionally you will need appropriate qualifications.

For example, you may be expected to have a music degree or diploma from a specialist music college to become a freelance music teacher.
You will need to have the appropriate books and equipment to teach properly, if you teach a musical instrument you need to own one!

By working from home you will be a freelance teacher, which means you are not employed by any specific school or company. You may travel to people’s houses, or use other venues to teach. (For Example: Many schools allow music teachers to give private lessons in their classrooms at the end of the day).

Working as a freelance teacher can earn you good money, though some subjects have higher earnings than others. You may find that as a freelance teacher, schools or other buildings may consider you to be almost an employee; though you remain self employed. If you wish to teach languages, you could also consider similar jobs such as offering translation services.

Freelance teachers can gain pupils through word of mouth, and also by appearing in local directories. If you teach at a school or other educational building, they may also publicise the range of subjects you and other private teachers offer. There are also a number of groups that place freelance teachers into school for specific subjects (commonly musical instrument teaching.); although you will require certain passes or qualifications to join most of these.

Pro:

There are few costs after purchasing equipment and books.

Teaching can be rewarding work.

Con:

The initial equipment purchase can be very expensive (especially for musical instruments).

Full training can take many years if you have no prior learning in the subject.
