Small Businesses You can Start

Small Businesses You Can Start - Cleaning Services

When running a cleaning service business, you may be required to clean a large number of areas. From the interior of a building, to floors, to exterior walls and graffiti; there are a large number of potential cleaning opportunities.

You will not need too much equipment to start a small business cleaning company, you will need cleaning equipment (E.g.: Brushes, vacuum cleaners) and cleaning solutions. If you wish to offer the growing services of power spray cleaning the exterior of buildings; you will need to purchase the equipment, which can cost a reasonable amount. There are also a number of cleaning franchise companies; and there may be opportunities in your area.

You will need to be able to communicate well with employees to ensure that team jobs are completed; you will also need the initiative to work on your own for long periods of time. Remember that the job may involve the cleaning of less than pleasant areas; if this affects you then you may need to think carefully before you start up. If you have sensitive skin you will also need to make sure that you are well protected from harsh cleaning chemicals.

A cleaning service business does not need a large decorated office, and you do not need to have an expensive town centre location as you will be travelling to the customer.

You do not need any qualifications to become a cleaner, although they will help to demonstrate to customers that you can provide a good service. If you feel you can do the work without a qualification then you may be ok; but you will need to make sure that your work is of a sufficient quality. If you are offering other cleaning services (particularly machine based spray cleaning) then you will need to be trained in how to use the equipment, although this is usually included when you purchase the equipment.

Cleaning services are usually charged per person per hour, though some cleaners have fixed charges for services like power spray cleaning. You will need to make sure that employees work well, and do not simply try to slow down to get more money; otherwise customers will quickly get angry.

Cleaning businesses usually advertise in local newspapers and business directories. Most build up a number of regular customers, which they visit regularly (E.g.: Every day or week).

Although cleaning services do not normally bring in massive profits, by providing a good service you can take advantage of a growing and sustainable area of business.

Pro:

There is a growing market for many types of cleaning service. (Particularly outdoor cleaning)

For inside of home cleaning there are few costs.

Con:

There is growing competition in most cleaning areas.

Is the work profitable enough to pay for an office or shop location?
