Dealing With Stress at Work

 Stress Management

At the end of the day, we all have to appreciate one thing: stress is unavoidable. So, the way that we go about this lies purely with stress management - your ability to look stress right in the face and say "I can beat you". Up until now, you may have feared stress but by reading (and putting into practice) the article, you should develop a sense of confidence that you can overcome stress in the future.

The following will give you some basic advice for dealing with stress, although it is suggested that you include your own techniques if you believe they work.

Accept that stress is the source of the problem. Many people often have the attitude of believing that stress is something not commonly associated with them. On doing so, you would just be pro-longing the issue. By accepting that stress is your problem, you can now take action.

Be Physical

Physical activity can help reduce stress. Try running, walking, playing squash, weight training, etc. Relax the mind when doing so: remember - the mind is also a muscle.

Talk About It

Share your problems with other people by talking to them. If there is something on our mind, it acts as a weight.

By sharing our mind with others, it relieves the weight onto other people who can then offer their support and encouragement to help you find a solution. Members of staff, your spouse, parents or friends can all be used to help you pull through. Never be scared to ask for advice - it happens to all of us.

Have a Good Cry

This includes you too gents! Sometimes stress can make us all want to cry, but in fact, it is a good idea. Crying releases tension in the body and at the same time it releases a natural antibiotic that makes us feel better.

Laugh

You are probably thinking that laughter is the last thing on your mind when you are stressed, but at times, you may be so stressed that all you can do is laugh. Ok, a little too extreme but have you ever heard the phrase "laughter is the best medicine". Try it - share a joke with your staff or read something funny, watch a comedy on TV…
