Types of Online Learning and Online Training

What Types of Courses Can I Do Online?

There are an increasing number of courses available online allowing you to learn about almost any area of business. The following are some of the most relevant types of courses for small business owners and employees.

(i) General Business Skills

These courses normally include the basic areas of running a business, and a brief look at the essential skills you will need. These are usually aimed at the beginner, who may want to start a business, but has no real business background; or for employees that are looking to become managers.

(ii) Financial Skills

These courses usually cover a range of key financial topics, such as profit and loss, cash flow management and budgeting skills. These are normally aimed at small business owners who wish to learn more about business finances to help them run their business more effectively. They are not usually aimed at finance employees, as they should already have knowledge of most of these skills.

(iii) Sales and Marketing

These courses typically cover a wide range of key sales and marketing skills, there are usually many different courses available, each covering a specific area or skill, such as presentation skills, internet marketing, and how you can deal with customers. These are usually aimed at business owners who wish to improve their selling and marketing skills, as well as employees who are new to sales, or wish to increase their skills in the area.

(iv) Computers, Software and the Internet

There are hundreds of courses available for computers; they cover a huge range of programs and skills. Courses on widely used programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; and courses on the Internet are aimed at business owners and employees who have little or no experience in their use.

Courses available include detailed starter guides to networking computers, web design and programming, and graphic design. These are aimed at those with more experience of computers who wish to learn more skills, or employees working in / looking to move into these areas.

(v) Management

These courses cover a wide range of topics, from basic management ideas to the skills of leadership and communication. They are designed to introduce management ideas to employees, or for managers and business owners to develop new skills that will benefit them in the effective management and running of their business.

There are also a large number of courses looking at motivation, empowerment and delegation. These are aimed at most managers and business owners, who can use these skills to improve the way they work and communicate with their staff.

(vi) Law and Regulations

These courses cover the most important laws and regulation that affect your business. The courses include health and safety rules, workforce legislation, and the key laws that affect small businesses. These courses are often aimed specifically at business owners, who should to know this information to ensure their business is run properly.

These training courses will not give you a full look at all laws and regulations, as there are too many to cover. They tend to look at the most common laws for businesses; any specialist laws that might affect your business may need specific training.
