Working Hours – Notice for Paid Holiday
- An employee must give you sufficient notice when requesting holiday.
- The minimum notice required to request holiday is twice the length of the period of holiday.
- So, for example, if an employee wants to take one week’ s holiday, they must give you two weeks’ notice.
- You can restrict when and how leave can be taken.
- These restrictions could include, for example, stopping people taking more than two continuous weeks of holiday, or stating that five days holiday must be taken when the business closes over Christmas.
Rejecting a holiday request
- Your can refuse a holiday request as long as you give you notice which is at least as long as the holiday requested.
- So, for example, the minimum notice required to reject a request of one week’ s holiday i s one week.
- You can only reject a holiday request if you have a legitimate reason.
- One example of a legitimate reason is having a policy stating a maximum of three people being on holiday at one time, where you could reject the request of the forth person to request holiday at any one time.
