Health & Safety at Work – Fire Regulations
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) applies to all workplaces and non-domestic premises.
When you are responsible for fire regulations
- If you are responsible for business premises.
- If you are an employer or self-employed with business premises.
- If you are responsible for a part of a dwelling where that part is solely used for business purposes.
- If you are a contractor with a degree of control over a premises.
- If you are providing accommodation for paying guests.
Requirements of the responsible person
- You must implement and m aintain a fire management plan.
- You must carry out a fire safety risk assessment. (You can download a risk assessment checklist at the bottom of this page.)
- If, once you have completed a fire safety risk assessment, you need more practical advice or information, your local Fire and Rescue Authority may be able to help.
- Your local fire authority can also order investigations or issue notices where you fail to meet the regulations.
