UK Bribery Act now in force

The UK Bribery Act 2010, the toughest anti-corruption legislation in the world has been thrust on UK businesses which may make them less competitive in world markets.

The law also affects companies who carry on business here who are based say in India for example. It is thought that small businesses will unlikely be affected. failure to prevent bribery is also an offence. You m ay not m ake or receive a bribe. Tough penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment with unlimited fines for individuals successfully prosecuted. Time to swat up on this subject and train team members to make them aware.
It has been reported that there are areas where “treats” are acceptable, research needed here eg paying for a high street coffee or tea perhaps. Hospitality is not prohibited by the Act.
