Sandwich Board Advertising

Putting a sandwich board in a busy area is guaranteed to attract the attention of passer-bys. When you pass sandwich boards in the street, you may not be interested, but you always find yourself reading them.

So, if at the end of the week, you only gain, say, 50 new customers, well I'd say that's pretty good. More than this - the better!

The tactic for advertising this way is to offer a message that makes people think, and ultimately seek an answer by turning to your business (or web-site) for the end result.

For example, "looking for quick finance?" or "where can you find the cheapest product X in town?" It's similar to writing a headline for a mail shot and sales letter. You should then give a contact -shop name, number, web-site address, etc.

The one thing you have to avoid is causing obstructions (public or transport), as this will be very annoying if people have to de-tour or walk single file to get past your board.

Promotion at Events

Events that attract many people are excellent for promoting your business. For example, what better place is there to hand out your freebies, or set up your own exhibition? Further, why not set up a banner advertising your business. In the last section, we looked at sandwich board advertising - see where I'm going here?

If it comes cheap enough, could you sponsor the event or at least get your name printed in the event programme. Simply wearing a t-shirt with your business name on can offer some degree of advertising. The possibilities are almost endless, and the more creative and original you are, the more effective your scheme will be.

Vehicle Printing

If you own company vehicles, it would be a good idea to get them printed with your business details, possibly even a logo. This is a good way of attracting new business as wherever you go, you are advertising, even when you are stuck in that 5 mile traffic jam coming back home after work. If you take on the idea, make the most of the free advertising - park on the main road or outside a block of offices, take it to events, etc.

Look around for inspiration and ideas, but remember - originality is the key.
