Are You Missing out on the Rising Profitability and Lowering Costs of E-Commerce?
If
your business has a website or takes phone
and mail orders; then have you considered
whether an e-commerce store could improve
your profitability?
A new survey by ecommerce software company
Actinic has found that despite 90% of small
and medium sized businesses with e-commerce
sites saying they are profitable, only one
in ten SME retailers has one. Even amongst
businesses who already accept telephone
orders for home delivery, only one in four
has an e-commerce facility.
If your business is worried about the costs
of ecommerce, then there is further good
news; the average cost of an ecommerce
solution is 40% less than the businesses in
the survey expected. The average expected
cost was £2416, whereas the average actual
cost was only £1585.
“Online stores are rarely unprofitable,
because there is huge growth in the sector
and overheads are far lower than their
offline counterparts,” Actinic CEO Chris
Barling comments. “More consumers are
letting their fingers do the shopping, but
still too few smaller businesses are
grasping the opportunity. Given the ease
with which you can set up a web store
nowadays, there is no reason not to take the
plunge - especially if you already offer
home delivery.”
One amusing finding was that 10% of
retailers think online shoppers are lazy!
With an opinion like this it’s not
surprising that some businesses are not yet
aware of how they could benefit from online
sales!
