If
your business has employees then you can
benefit by keeping them committed and
loyal, and ensuring effective
communication and development. To help
achieve this, the Department of Trade
and Industry (DTI) has produced four new
publications to advise small businesses
of useful best practice ideas.
The first publication, 'high performance
through people', focuses on making
employees feel valued, involved, treated
fairly and encouraged to fulfil their
potential. It highlights the main
characteristics and individual benefits
of high performance workplaces,
providing guidance on how you can
improve the workplace.
'Creating a skilled workforce' looks at
the benefits of staff training and
development, how to develop a training
plan and introducing better methods of
working in order to make the most of
staff talent.
'Diversity and equality' looks at the
way in which the labour market has
continually evolved and diversified,
including equal pay and equality of
diversity. The publication outlines the
current employee legislation businesses
need to be aware of, the benefits of
creating a fairer workplace and
practical issues on implementation.
'Partnership working and involving
employees' centres on realising the
benefits of involving employees in
decision-making and problem-solving
processes, demonstrating how employers
can work with staff, through information
and consultation process.
