Can You Improve Productivity with a Team Building Event?
Despite a common reputation as being
expensive and pointless ventures; a new
survey shows that employers are actually
reaping large benefits from team building
weekends and events.
The survey by employment law consultancy
Peninsula, shows that the popularity of team
building events is rising as more
companies
realise the potential benefits. 84% of
employers surveyed said that team building
days are great value for money, and that
they improve productivity; while 88% of
employers noticed improvements in
communication and morale after a team
building weekend.
Employees’ views were almost as positive,
but an impressive 79% said that their
relationship with colleagues improved after
a team building weekend.
Peter Done of Peninsula comments; “Employees
believe the investment in such schemes is
worthwhile in terms of the long term
benefits that result. The scenarios faced in
the team building weekends strengthens bonds
between employees and creates a greater
sense of unity and common purpose which is
reflected in the workplace on there return.
“In the past team building weekends may have
been regarded as a big expense which
infringes into the personal time of all
concerned to varied success. However times
have changed and a well planned excursion
with unique scenarios, setting tasks and
challenges can be extremely effective. The
benefits extent further than merely
communication and understanding, they
provide a valuable insight for employers to
gauge the way there workers minds work and
how they approach challenges.
“Employers can learn a great deal about
their staff and implement the experiences in
future relations with each employee, with a
greater understanding of what is an
effective approach to meet the needs and
challenges of each individual.”
As a small business with just a few
employees, a full blown team building
weekend is likely to be too costly; but by
planning effectively you can create a
reasonably priced event that will help
improve productivity. Employees may not be
too keen to give up their free time, so make
sure you pick an event that provides them
with some enjoyment and is worth their
attendance.
