Trades-People: Gain Customer Trust with New Scheme
If you run an honest trades business, you
will probably have noticed the bad image
many people have of trades-people because of
the minority of ‘cowboys’.
There is now something you can do to help
show your customers that you are honest and
reliable; signing up to the new
government
funded TrustMark scheme. The scheme allows
registered traders to display the TrustMark
logo; which will allow customers to
instantly see that your work meets
applicable standards, and that your business
is considered trustworthy.
If you carry out work in any of the
following sectors you are probably eligible
to apply for TrustMark status:
·
Damp-proofing and timber treatment
·
Drain installation, maintenance and repair
·
Conservatories
·
Electrical
·
Fencing
·
Garden landscaping
·
General building
·
Glazing
·
Hardscaping
·
Heating
·
Joinery and carpentry
·
Kitchen, bathroom and bedroom
·
Painting and decorating
·
Plastering and rendering
·
Plumbing
·
Roofing
·
Security systems
Businesses will need to register through one
of the scheme operators, which include trade
associations as well as independent bodies.
As the scheme is very new, there are
currently only a small number of operators
registered; however number is steadily
increasing as more firms find out about the
scheme.
If your business is involved in an industry
that is eligible for the TrustMark scheme
then you should seriously consider joining.
As well as the advantage that joining early
will give you over your local competitors;
you should consider the potential
disadvantage in 12-24 months time if your
competitors are registered and you are not.
More information on the TrustMark scheme is
available here.
