Patents – Easier Filing Online
 If
your business has intellectual property and
needs to file patents; then you will know
how time consuming the process can be.
Happily, the UK Intellectual Property Office
has launched a new online patent application
service; which will speed up the process of
filing patents, and hopefully make it less
complicated.
The service allows users to apply for
patents online and provide their
inventorship information using a web-based
interface. Users can also request search and
examination of their application in this
way.
The fees are still the same (usually £200),
and it will still take up to four and a half
years (though most are completed in 2-3
years) to grant the patent; but at least the
initial process can now be slightly simpler.
Sean Dennehey, Director of Patents, said:
"This new service gives customers of the UK
Intellectual Property Office more choice in
how they can file patent applications with
us. In particular, it allows people to file
patent applications electronically using a
standard browser interface. We think this is
good news for our customers, and underlines
our commitment to delivering high quality
e-business services."
