Are Your Employees Losing Working Time to Office Inefficiencies?

If your business is based in an office location then you need to consider whether you are doing everything possible to prevent your employees working time being affected.

Over the course of an average day, your employees lose working time to distractions, meetings and faults with office equipment. In fact, a survey by BACS Payment Schemes Limited has shown that the average office employee loses up to 3 hours of potentially productive time every day, over a third of an average 8 hour day.

The biggest cause of time loss was office technology; with problems like slow computers, crashing computers and printer jams wasting up to 48 minutes a day. Extra technology support can cost a reasonable amount, but could save you money in the long term by reducing employee hours lost, and improving morale by reducing errors and fixing those that appear quickly.

Dealing with colleagues was the second biggest time waster, losing the average employee up to 34 minutes a day. Unnecessary phone calls and conference calls lose an average 26 minutes a day, while attending unnecessary meetings loses an average of 23 minutes per day.

Almost three quarters of employees surveyed said that unnecessary emails were frustrating, as did 88% of employees for unwanted telephone calls; while an alarming 23% of workers were considering changing job to get away from the daily barrage of unwanted communication. This demonstrates the value of good spam email blocking, and that registering to prevent unwanted phone calls with the Telephone Preference Service can help your employee’s morale as well as freeing up time.

While it is impossible for any business to be 100% efficient all of the time, these results show clearly how your business can benefit by working to prevent disruptions and technology problems.
