Is Your Business Failing to Capitalise from Online Growth?
Despite the continuing growth of the
internet and online sales, the majority of
small and medium sized businesses are still
failing to represent themselves online; with
only a tiny number profiting directly from
it.
A
recent National Statistics survey has shown
that large businesses make up just 2% of
those online in the UK, but yet they account
for 75% of revenue. SME’s make up 98% of
online businesses yet only account for 25%
of revenue.
Web host UKFast that the majority of small
businesses are failing to represent
themselves online; and of those that do many
are failing to get a good return on
investment. This is often because the
business has not planned the web presence
well, and has ended up with a site that
fails to meet their needs.
Lawrence Jones, MD of UKFast believes SMEs
are throwing away great opportunities to
build their profile and revenue by not
optimising their online presence. “Small and
medium sized businesses are missing out on
the Net’s full potential,” says Jones. “The
figures are staggering. Less than 8% of all
SMEs are profiting directly from the web.”
However, trend are showing that small
businesses are starting to catch up; meaning
that it is more important than ever to
consider the benefits of an online presence.
Failure to take advantage could mean getting
left behind.
Another lesson here is the value of ensuring
your business’ site is well produced and
well targeted for search engines whilst
being reasonable in cost. It is easy to
spend tens of thousands of pounds on a fancy
but ineffective site when a simple, cheaper,
easy to use one could do a better job. But
similarly, it is easy to spend money on a
poor site which could be better put towards
a more costly but better made site.
The key is to research and know what your
business needs, then find a web designer and
host that meets those needs; without paying
over the odds. A well planned website can be
an extremely useful and profitable tool for
your business, but like all important
aspects of your business; effective planning
and buying is vital.
