INTERNET

1p Per Minute - 24 Hours a Day for £9.99 Per Month

AOL have started the shake up of UK telephone net deals by announcing an unlimited access plan. For a monthly payment of £9.99 you can stay on-line for 24 hours a day at 1p per minute. If you sign up now (?) you will also get 10 free hours. The telephone number is 0800 376 5432, the software will take about 7 days to arrive.

(Ed: Under this plan my own quarterly bill would have reduced by £55, if AOL can do this, what can BT do - if they wanted to?)

Top 100 UK Net e-millionaires

A Sunday Times article, 03/10/99, listed the top 100 UK e-millionaires. At the top: Paul Sykes of Planet OnLine (an internet service provider) with a personal value of £500m. At the bottom: Benjamin Cohen of Jewishnet.com who started out with £150, now worth £5m. We are not quite in the same league as the American's: outside of the top 14, the others have a worth of under £50m each. SOURCE: Sunday Times

HEALTH

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

Last week an employee won £25,000 damages for Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) they suffered through working 6 hours a day, using a mouse, and being un-trained to do so. Many individuals work more than 6 hours a day using a mouse, sitting poorly, without regulated breaks. Heavy PC users must be made aware of the health and safety issues relevant to the IT age.
