How Has Business Changed Since 1999?
Eight years might not
sound like a long time, but in the fast
moving worlds of business and technology it
certainly is.
As the BizHelp24 Newsletter
reaches its 200th edition, we are
taking a look back at how things have
changed for businesses since our first
edition back in the days of the Dot Com
bubble...
- The Millennium Bug
was causing considerable worry for
businesses all around the world, with
many people anticipating catastrophic
failure of computer systems. Happily,
the panic was not justified when the
year 2000 came and went with virtually
no sign of any problems.
- Broadband was just
a distant dream for small businesses,
with most using 56k modems and paying
per minute for their connection.
- E-commerce was
still beyond the price range of most
small businesses, and even having a
professional website could cost a small
fortune due to over inflated web design
prices!
- The ‘dot com
bubble’ meant hundreds of new internet
business were splashing out on big
offices and champagne parties without
actually making any money; the results
of which would come back to haunt them
in just a year or two.
However, many things
have remained the same:
- Small businesses are still the worst
treated when it comes to being paid on
time, while large businesses are still
the worst payers; and while many small
businesses have improved their credit
management, most still suffer from late
payment and non payment.
- Spam emails are
still filling small business inboxes
promoting all kinds of rubbish, while
the risk of damage from viruses and
cyber crime is still high; requiring
businesses to be just as vigilant as
they ever have been online.
- BizHelp24 is still
providing hundreds of free business
advice articles, and still provides free
software to help you deal with invoices,
accounting, and debt collection!
So while many things have drastically
changed, especially online; much of the
business world is quite similar to eight
years ago. Just like then, you can access
all our articles completely free of charge;
and the BizHelp24 newsletter is still
providing news and tips straight to your
inbox.
