EU Starting to Act on Red Tape Burden

Good news if your business is struggling with red tape; it appears as if the plight of small businesses is finally having an affect on the regulations and rules created by the EU. The European Commission has announced that as part of its drive to deliver better regulation, 68 out of 183 outstanding proposals have been scrapped.

One of the most controversial proposals to be shelved is the directive designed to give temporary workers the same rights as permanent workers. Employers feared that the rules would add red tape and extra costs to using temporary workers; but the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has condemned the decision, claiming it leaves temp workers at risk of those employers who operate unscrupulously.

The EU is now focusing on improving and simplifying existing regulations, to reduce the burden on businesses whilst still providing effective regulation and rights.

While it is always difficult to make legislation that combines good regulation with minimal red tape; it is very positive news for SME’s that the EU is making an effort. This focus will hopefully mean that your business will continue to benefit from removed and reduced red tape over the coming years.
